From Some Descendants of John Counts of Glade Hollow book, page 146: "John Counts was born February 9, 1815 and died March 24, 1899 in Wise County (VA), son of James and Eva (Banner) Counts, married Elizabeth Smith, born May 20, 1819 and died Oct 4, 1900 in Wise Co, VA. Both he and Elizabeth are buried in the Coeburn Cemetery, Wise Co, VA. They lived on a large farm at the mouth of the Big Toms Creek near Coeburn. On Dec 9, 1871, he contracted a tract at this place known as the "Hoge Tract". On Apr 25, 1883, Daniel S Hoge and wife convayed to him 500 acres. His will is recorded in Wise Co..."
He served in the Civil War, CSA. Priv, 72nd Virginia Militia.
