David and Marie married
on 17 November 1874
at Grant Township, O'Brien, Iowa
They were the parents of five children;
Durwin Ray, Helen M., Edith Mable,
Harold M., Malcolm D.

David is recorded on the 1850 census
at Sandy Creek, Oswego, New York
dwelling in the household of his parents.
David is recorded on the 1870 census
at Amsterdam, Montgomery, New York.
dwelling in the household of his mother.

David was educated in the public schools
at Amsterdam, then, later studied law.
On 4 April 1865 he enlisted for three years
of service in the Civil War at Albany, New
York in Company A, 115 Volunteer Infantry;
he was mustered in as private.
On June 17, 1865 he was transferred to Company A, 115th Regiment.
He served in no engagements; during the summer of 1865 he was doing camp duty
and guarding property at Raleigh, North Carolina and by exposure contracted asthma
in swamps of North Carolina and Virginia,
and has suffered with the disease since.
He was discharged on 30 August 1865.
In 1871 he came to Clay County in Iowa
where he settled on a homestead.
On 25 February 1872 he settled in O'Brien County, Iowa.
From 1882 - 1886 he was County Superintendent of Schools.
From 1890 - 1895 he was County Coroner.
He was a lawyer at Paullina, O'Brien, Iowa.
In 1910 David and Marie were residing at Union, O'Brien, Iowa.
He was a member of A.F. & A.M; Royal Arch Masons; and member of G. A. R. at Primghar.
The family were faithful and consistent members of the Presbyterian Church.
