D. J. Dennehy, 83, Dies After A Fall

Daniel Joseph Dennehy, 83, of Beatrice died at a local hospital early this morning after failing health. He had fractured his hip in a fall Wednesday. He was born Oct. 16 1862 in Tralee, Ireland and had lived in this community 60 years. He was a contractor before retiring a number of years ago.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Graves of Beatrice, with whom he made his home; Mrs. Melvin Marsh, Beatrice; Mrs.Oscar Fredrickson, Liberty; and one son, James of Kirkland, Wash.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30p.m. Sunday at Harman Chapel, Rev. Ross McCown officiating. Burial in Evergreen Home.

Daniel Joseph Dennehy, son of Daniel and Honora Dennehy, was born in Kerry county, Tralee, Ireland, on Oct 16th, 1862, and died at a local hospital on Nov 9th, 1945, being just past 83 years of age. When he was 18 years old, accompanied by his ten-year-old sister, he came to America and landed at Castle Garden, New York. A little later he came to Polo, Ill., where he lived for six years.
In the spring of 1886 he came to Beatrice and the following winter he worked in Wyoming for the Kilpatrick and Collins Construction company building bridges over the Platte River.
The following year he began working as a carpenter and contractor in Nebraska and has erected many buildings in this locality. Failing health caused him to give up his work a number of years ago.
On Aug 28, 1888, he was married to Christina M. Wenerick of Beatrice, and Beatrice has always been the family home.
To this union were born five children, three girls, and two boys.
For many years he was a leading member of the Odd Fellows, Encampments, Rebekahs, and Eagles.
His wife died October 1925, and one son, John Carl Dennehy, died about ten years ago.
He leaves his three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Graves of Beatrice; Mrs Melvin Marsh of Beatrice; Mrs Oscar Fredrickson of LIberty, and one son, James Leo Dennehy of Kirkland, Wash; and nine grandchildren, Ruth and Virgil Graves, Francis and Dan Dennehy, Lyle and Loren Marsh and Ormah, Darrell and Lyle Fredrickson, also three great grandchildren.
