The Bandera Bulletin, Friday, March 12, 1976, MRS. MATTIE MAYFIELD ANSWERS LAST CALL

Mrs. Mattie Mayfield, beloved mother and grandmother, age 87, of Medina, passed away in Purple Hills Nursing Home on Friday afternoon, March 5, 1976, where she had been a resident for the past four years.

Mrs. Mayfield was born in Granite, Oklahoma, the daughter of James Charlton Collins and Barbara Collins, on May 17, 1888, and moved to Medina with her parents at a very early age. She had lived in Medina for more than 70 years.

On October 19, 1908, Mattie Collins and J. H. (Jim Mayfield) were happily married in Medina and they ranched in the Medina community where they were loved and highly esteemen by all their neighbors and friends. There they reared a fine family of sons and daughters. Mr. Mayfield, her beloved husband, preceded her in death on July 29, 1959.

Mrs. Mayfield was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was a wonderful wife as well as a much loved mother and grandmother.

After age came upon her, she went to reside at Purple Hills Nursing Home. There she was loved by those at the home. She made her room attractive with photographs of her children and grandchildren as well as many beautiful articles of her handiwork.

She is survived by four sons, Durward Mayfield of Medina, Boyd Mayfield of Kerrville, Harvey Mayfield of Helotes, and Charlton Mayfield of Amarillo; two daughters, Mrs. Frank Kammer of Kerrville, and Mrs. Eva Jean Keese of Medina; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Meda Bauerlein of Medina and Mrs. Barbara Lacewell of San Antonio; and one brother, J. C. Collins of Medina. One beloved nephew, who grew up in her home and whom she "mothered" preceded her in death.

Funeral services for the beloved lady were conducted at the First Baptist Church in Medina at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon with Rev. Lewis Vannater, officiating, and she was laid to rest by the side of her husband in Oak Rest Cemetery.
