Mary Jane Bell was born 12 April 1830 in Franklin, Simpson County, Kentucky to Tom and Amanda Bell. She came to Illinois with her parents when only a child and settled in Mason County. On 3 July 1846, in Hancock County, Illinois, she married John Daniel, son of George Washington and Polley (Isley) Daniel. To this union were born eight children: Martha Jane, John Isley, George W., Thomas Milton, Francis Marion, Mitchell Young, Eugene, and one unnamed child. Mary died on 5 June 1910 in Bath, Mason County, Illinois. She was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Mson County, Illinois. She was a loving mother, excellent wife and companion, a good neighbor and loved by all who knew her.

Parents may have been Thomas O. and Martha Finch Beall/Bell. There is some discrepancy in the family records
