Private graveside serives for Richard Floyd Allen, 89, Baldwin, will be Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Allen died Monday, March 29, 1993, at the Orchard Lane Nursing Facility in Baldwin.

He was born Oct. 22, 1903, in Kansas City, Kan., to George and Eva Underwood Allen. He attended public schools in Kansas City, Kan., and graduated from the Kansas University School of Law in 1926.

Mr. Allen was the attorney for the insurance department of Kansas until 1928, when he resigned to practice law in Topeka. He became the attorney for the Standard Life Assn. in Lawrence in 1929, and was elected general counsel in 1938. He was elected secretary and general counsel in 1946 and retired in 1969.

He was a member of the Kansas National Guard and received a reserve commission in the cavalry in 1931. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve with the rank of major in 1961.

Mr. Allen served two terms in the Kansas House of Representatives, representing the 12th District from 1955 to 1959. He was a member of the KU Alumni Association board of directors from 1955 to 1961. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon social fraternity, Shrine and Scottish Rite organizations, Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity, Masonic Lodge, Legion of the Honor DeMolay, Order of the Eatern Star, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Santa Fe Historical Society, and the Douglas County Historical Society.

He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Lawrence, the American Legion in Baldwin, the Reserve Officers Assn., the Baldwin Rotary Club, the First United Methodist Church in Baldwin, the Douglas County and Kansas Bar associations, and the Sons of the American Revolution. He was trustee of the Palmyra Township in Douglas County for seven years.

He married Mildred Petefish on Aug. 22, 1952, in Topeka. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Georganna Tait, Scottsdale, Ariz.; a son, Ralph, El Cajon, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
