CIVIL WAR VETERAN
Porter Armstrong was born May 23, 1843 in Genesee County, New York to Henry and Lucy Armstrong.
A resident of Cortland, Illinois, he enlisted as a Private on 28 Dec 1861 and mustered into Company G, 58th Illinois Infantry. He re-enlisted on 01 Jan 1864 at Paducah, Kentucky and transferred to Co. B. He was mustered out of service on 01 Apr 1866.
He applied for a pension on 08 Dec 1890 from Montana and came to Washington in 1909. In 1912 he was living in Charleston. He was admitted to the Veterans Home at Retsil on 23 Mar 1920 and died there on 09 Apr 1920.

Porter's mother was Susan Bristol Armstrong and she died in 1860. Porter is a younger brother of my gr gr grandmother Louisa Armstrong Harned. You can find the Armstrong family on the 1850 census living in NY with Porter being 5 and you will see where Lucy is a sister.
