George was my "fat cat". He was my Georgiums. He entered my life in October 1993 and the vet said he was about 4 months old at the time. My ex and I were coming home with groceries. I pushed the apartment door open with my foot since my hands were full, and this pretty little kitty with big old mitten paws casually sauntered in ahead of me, turned around and sat down...then looked at me as if to say "I'm here...where's my food dish?"
It took a little while, but my two other cats, Willie and Winkie, took Georgie in and made him part of the family. Willie was like the mama cat and Georgie loved her.
Georgie was quite unique. I believe he was an ocicat...he had tiger stripes on his back, spots on his belly, a racoon-type tail and calico markings on his little face. He also was polydactyl...he had 6 toes on each paw.
He loved to eat...absolutely anything...including vegetables! His favorite veggie was green beans...but his absolute favorite people food was "tuna juice". Whenever I would open a can of tuna, the water that I drained would go into a bowl for Georgie and the other kitties. He was a greedy one though and got the "lion's share" every time.
He was a fat cat most of his life, ranging from 16-18 pounds...until this last year. This dramatic weight loss is what made us realize that he wasn't long for this world. He spent his last evening in a towel in my arms, as he had lost the use of his legs. He didn't seem to be in a lot of pain, and purred for me a bit. My husband laid George in his bed next to Winkie's bed in their room before we went to bed, and that's where he still was when we checked on him Saturday morning. It seems he was just waiting for us to go to bed before he left.
Georgie was laid to rest on Saturday, March 15th in our backyard, under a shade tree by my husband and son. My son has found a broken off paver that I'm going to engrave for a headstone...and he visits him and brings him flowers every day.
He was my baby-boo...and he will be missed forever and ever.
