He is buried one row east and a couple graves south of his wife Betty Stephenson Schwing who is buried beside Jim's Dad Gustave Schwing, kind of making them look married, the father and daughter-in-law. There is no stone as per his request, but there is a brass military plaque set in the concrete marking the grave as was his request.
This is my Dad so like for my mother, and grandparents, I could say a lot, but don't know what to say.
Dad was very interested in sports, I wasn't. He was very involved with fraternal organizations belonging to the Knights of Columbus (Grand Knight one year Council 3682, Third Degree as I am), American Legion Post 332 in Brownsburg, IN, (served as commander twice, adjutant, and chaplain at time of death). He was one of several men who helped Charlie Williams organize the VFW in Brownsburg and he was adjutant there.
He was also active at St. Malachy Catholic Church as lector, usher, and served on the Parish Council. As typical with many men his age he was his work and civic organizations and family man. He worked at Ohio Casualty insurance till he retired early 1990? or before.
I was glad that I could be his caretaker during his illness and we had many good talks and time together before he died. The American Legion was also very helpful in this period--they had a board to sign up to take him to the doctor appointments, visit him, etc. My thanks go out for the many friends he had there who were his second family, particularly the Albrechts, Lovisceks and Murphys.
