OBITUARY: Big Lake resident Christina Marie "Wrecker Lady" Barkdoll, 42, died July 22, 2000, at home, from apparent heart failure. A memorial service was held July 27, at Moose Lodge No. 2549, in the B&J Plaza at Mile 49 Parks Hwy. Ms. Barkdoll was born April 11, 1958, in Portland, Ore., where she grew up and graduated from high school. She was enrolled to begin her second year of training as a paralegal at Mat-Su College in Palmer this fall. She came to Alaska nearly 20 years ago. She was well-known as a tow-truck driver, which led to her nickname, "Wrecker Lady," but she was very proud of being recently hired by a local legal office. She was a charter member of Moose Lodge No. 2549 in Meadow Lakes, and a regular volunteer for their committees. She was a formidable opponent on a pool table and played on local league teams for several years. She was dedicated to rescuing mistreated and/or homeless animals (particularly dogs) and her determination nearly always found success. Karen Saunders, on behalf of her "Alaskan family" wrote: Chris was a distinct individual, from her beautiful blue eyes and distinct figure to her sharp wit and wonderful sense of humor; there simply was only one "Wrecker Lady" Chris. She was devoted to her family and friendships, often bringing sunshine when it was needed the most. The time we had to spend with her will be treasured and she will be missed by us all."

Former wife of Harold Hugh Cochran II
