JAMES H. FORDYCE DEAD

It is with regret that the many friends of James H. Fordyce received the news of his death, which occurred at the Soldier's Home, Marion, Ind., January 1st, 1915.

Mr. Fordyce was a very popular citizen of Whiting, where for twenty-four years he had been a trusted employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company. He acted as gateman at the 117th, 119th and Front Street crossings of that road.

The body was brought from Marion to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Shade, on Ohio Avenue, from where the funeral was held. Services took place at the M.E. Church, Rev. Rogers officiating.

Mr. Fordyce was born in Illinois on September 3, 1845, and later came to Princeton [sic] and at the time of his death was 69 years, three months and twenty-eight days old. Aug. 23, 1873, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Bennett. To this union were born five children--three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Simpier, Mrs. Edith Shade and Mrs. Bessie Johnson--and two sons, Frank and Harry Fordyce, all of whom are residents of Whiting. In early life he became a member of the United Brethren Church, and recently he renewed his vows. During the civil war he enlisted and served in the 129th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. In recent years he has been a member of the Grand Army of the Republic.
