MR. G. E. GRIFFETH
DIED TUESDAY
---------
The Passing Away of an
Old and Respected
Citizen.
---------
Tuesday morning at half past nine o'clock at his home on Dougherty street in this city Mr. George E Griffeth passed away after a long illness of Bright's disease.

Mr Griffeth has been a citizen of Athens several months, coming here from Oconee county where he had been a farmer all his life. He was 74 years old at the time of his death and his passing away was not unexpected. He died in the full assurance of Christian faith, having been a consistent member of the Baptist church for many years.

He was born in the county of Oconee and throughout his long and useful life was one of her most prominent citizens. He was a valiant Confederate soldier, a member of Co K., third Georgia regiment, serving with distinction through the entire war. For several years he was the efficient country treasurer of Oconee county.

Mr. Griffeth leaves six children. Messrs. William G., Frank E., J.T., W.R., and J.L. Griffeth and Mrs. Robert Thompson.
