Carrie was musically talented and had a very good signing voice. As a pianist she played without reading music could play a song she heard on the radio. Early in her life she had a job playing piano to silent movies on the screen at the St. Paul Orpheum Theater. The piano playing matched the action on the screen to give more interest to the silent movie.
A couple of her children also had good singing voices, especially Albert. Family lore said her father, John Hartman, a painter & sign maker, would occasionally sing in operas as an amateur in various stage productions.
Carrie was married to Albert Harry Cassidy on June 12, 1888 in Moline, Rock Island, Illinois.
