Police Corporal Emmett Works, age 68, husband of Rose Dahms Works, died Saturday, July 28, 1951 at his home on Devonshire Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri after a long illness.

Corporal Works was a member of the St. Louis Metro Police Department for 34 years and at the time of his death had been attached to the inspector's office since 1948. He joined the force in July of 1917 and became a corporal in 1947. During most of his career Corporal Works was attached to the Carr Street district.

In addition to his wife, Rose Dahms Works, Corporal Works wa survived by four sons; Donald Works, James Works, Charles Works, and Emmett Works, Jr, and two daughters; Mrs. Ruth Works Heckel and Mrs. Virginia M. Works Fotsch (Fredrick W.).

Corporal Works was the son of Jasper and Martha 'Mattie' E. True Works.

Corporal Works had the following siblings:

Flora Works Hughes, who was the wife my great-great uncle, Augustus (Gus) Hughes.

Jefferson Davis Works, who was the husband of my great-great aunt, Rebecca Ann Hughes Works.

Ausker (Oscar?) Works (1879 - ??).

(Half-sister) Effie Works Ireland, who was the daughter of Albert Jasper Works and his second wife, Mary Ellen Hughes. Effie's mother, Mary Ellen, was the daughter of my great-great uncle, George Samuel Hughes, and Harriet Stevenson. Effie's married Hendrix Ireland. Hendrix was the son of my great-great aunt, Mary Frances 'Frankie' Hughes Ireland.

Augustus, Mary Frances, Rebecca, and George S. Hughes were all siblings and the children of Joseph and Sarah Ann Hale Hughes.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 31, 1951 at Kriegshauser Mortuary on Kingshighway Boulevard in St. Louis, Missouri. Burial in Sunset Burial Part, St. Louis, Missouri.
