HELEN M. DAY SCHOOLTEACHER, WOOLEN MILL WORKER
Helen M. Day, 90 of Oak Street died Wednesday at Fryeburg Health Care Center.
She was born in Hiram, a daughter of Melvin and Mabel Mason Merrifield, went to South Hiram schools, graduated from Porter High School in 1924 and attended Gorham Normal School.
She taught for three years in local schools and four years in Limington, and also worked 26 years at Kezar Falls Woolen Mills before retiring in 1968.
Mrs. Day was a member of Porter-Parsonsfield Historical Society, Kezar Falls American Legion Auxiliary and the Riverside United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed to crocheting and gardening.
Her husband of more than 48 years, Leslie L. Day, died in 1976. A son, Melvin Seth Day, died in 1934, and a stepson, Erwin Day, died in 1945.
Surviving are two daughters, Eloise Paulin of Sebago Lake and Spring Hill, Fla., and Mabel Rogers of Windham; a son, Herman Day of Middleton, N.H.; a stepdaughter, Julia Warren of Rockland; a sister, Crystal Calnan of Kezar Falls; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A spring graveside service will be held. Arrangements are by Neal & York Funeral Home, Kezar Falls.
