Son of Nicolaui Wallerich (1772-1841) and Elizabeth Hild Wallerich (1761-1852), both of Faha, Merzig-Wadern, Saarland, Germany (Prussia).

Birthdate: Johan's birthdate is recorded as February 20, 1802 (see excerpt from the family book Kirf below).

February 9, 1831 - First married Mariam Kinnen (Maria Kinn). Marriage took place at Saint Remigius Church in Kirf, Germany. Mariam and Johann had one son, Johann, Jr. Mariam died in 1834 and is assumed to be buried in the Saint Remigius Cemetery.

December 14, 1834 - Second married Elizabeth Schons. Marriage took place at Saint Remigius Church in Kirf, Germany. Elizabeth and Johann had ten children together.

Mariam and Johann's son
1. Johann "John" Wallerich, 1832-1916, married Mary Anna Greiner, daughter of Frederick Greiner and Anna Marie Lang.

Elizabeth and Johann's Children
2. Nicholas Wallerich, 1835-? , did not emigrate to the US with the family
3. Mathais "Matthew" Wallerich, 1838–1901, married Barbara (Babette) Will
4. Maria "Mary" Wallerich, 1839–1903, married Herman Gerhard Seaba
5. Michael Wallerich, 1841–1919, married Anna J.Engeldinger
6. Elizabeth Wallerich, 1842–1886, married Peter John Trierweiler
7. Kind Wallerich, 1844-1844, died in Kirf, Trier-Saarburg, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany
8. John Peter Wallerich, 1845-?, did not emigrate to the US with the family
9. Nicholas Wallerich, 1847–1927, married Florence Humphreys
10. John Peter Wallerich, 1848–1916, married Katherine Barbara "Kate" Young
11. Angela Wallerich, 1850–1851, died in Kirf, Trier-Saarburg, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany

A PUZZLE: Age for Johann Wallerich Sr as it appears on the Malabar manifest when he and his family traveled from Le Harve, France to New York on July 28,1853 is questionable because Johann is documented 3 years later in the Iowa 1856 census to be age 54. He is buried at Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery in Clear Creek. Cemetery record shows his birth year as 1797 and that he died in 1852 (one year prior to arriving to the US… oops!) So… he certainly was not as old as 70 when he first came over from Prussia. He likely died in 1857, transcription error mistaking the number 7 for a 2. The stone/marker is missing. Buried near him is his second wife, Elizabeth Schons. His first wife, Mariam Kinnen (Maria Kin), died in Kirf, Germany.

1853 Malabar manifest lists Johann Wallerich Sr (J Wallerich, age 70) and Johann (John) Wallerich Jr (J Wallerich age 21) Also, Elizabeth Schons Wallerich, spouse of Johann Wallerich Sr, and their six children. Schons is step-mother to Johann Jr.

Johann Sr (J Wallerich, male, age 70) [correct age is 50]

Elizabeth (E Wallerich, female, age 44)

Johann Jr (J Wallerich, male, age 21)
Matthias (M Wallerich, male, age 16)
Mary (M Wallerich, female, age 14)

Michael (M Wallerich, male, age 12)

Elizabeth (E Wallerich, female, age 10)

Nicholas (N Wallerich, male, age 6)

John Peter (J Wallerich, male, age 5)

Aside from his seven children listed on the manifest who emigrated to the US with the family Johann and Elizabeth also had four other children, Nicholas, b. 1835, Kind, born 1835, d. 1835, Johann Peter, born 1845, and Angela b. June 30, 1850, d. April 19, 1851.
