Daughter of William Miles and Jane Sanders Miles; On November 6, 1850, Margaret Miles married John N. McCain in Harris County Georgia. She is not listed in the 1850 Harris County census which was taken one week after her marriage and is not in any list(that I have seen) of the children of William and Jane. In her Confederate Widow's pension, one of her witnesses stated that he had know her her whole life and that she was the daughter of William and Jane Miles. John and Margaret moved to Scott County Mississippi with William and Jane Miles in about 1859. My Great grandmother, Josephine McCain Brock was born in Scott County Mississippi in 1860. The older children had all been born in Georgia. They were Martha, Mary, William A., and Frances. During the Civil War, John N. McCain died in a hospital in Brandon Mississippi and was buried in Scott County Mississippi. Margaret and her 5 children moved back to Georgia shortly after John's death. Margaret applied for and received a pension based on her husband's service in the Confederate Army. John's parents both died in 1865, but Margaret was living near John's youngest brother, Benjamin Jasper McCain in 1880 in Carroll County Georgia. In 1890, she was living on Green's Ferry Road in Atlanta with her son William A. She was living in Carroll County in 1905. One of her daughter's is buried in the same cemetery as John's parents in Carroll County Georgia.
