"FEAR GOD AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS"

Obituary written by Luther Williams and printed by him in The Informer Bulletin of the church of Christ at Eva, Alabama on April 17, 1979:

A GREAT SOLDIER HAS FALLEN

Brother Chesley Guthery of Cullman, AL passed from this life Monday morning, 16th April 1979, at 5 AM. He and his wife were living the the Cullman Nursing Home. Brother Guthery was one of the greatest soldiers for the cause of Christ that I have known. He knew the Bible. He believed it, he preached it, and he lived it. Brother Guthery was a personal friend of my wife and I. We worked together in the church at Jones Chapel, back in 1962 and 1963. Brother Guthery has been a great source of encouragement to me in preaching the gospel. Brother Guthery has preached many sermons in his life time, and there is no telling how much good has been done. His daily statements were: "Fear God and keep his commandments" and "Back to the Bible for it all". Our prayer is for the family in this time of sorrow. I will be the speaker at his funeral, April the 18th, at Prospect church of Christ. -WLW
