Nancy is the first child of eight born to Ed and Sylvie Hale. She graduated from South High School in Pueblo, Pueblo, Colorado, USA. Sissy was a nurse, a member of the Jaycees, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Red Hat Society and a mother of five.

Her first marriage, to Gary, issued one daughter, Sonya, and one son (still living) before ending in divorce.
