It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Mike Basham, TXGenWeb coordinator and USGW Board member and Executive VP of the Dallas Genealogical Society. Mike was well-loved and respected by people all over the world. He has been the driving force behind the expansion of this vital internet resource for genealogists with Texas ancestry. He will be greatly missed. We extend our sincere sympathy to his family and friends.
Malcom Luther "Mike" Basham, born May 25, 1942 in Grandview, Texas, and passed away September 15,1997 in Dallas, Texas. Mike grew up in Venus, where he was Valedictorian of his graduating class of 1960. He graduated in the class of 1964 from Texas A&M and was a member of the Ross Volunteers. He served in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966. He married Nancy Elick, January 6, 1968. He was Past President of Lake Highlands Soccer Association; Past President of Bishop Lynch Booster Club; Officer in the Dallas Genealogical Society; Officer in Royal Highlands Homeowners Association. He was a Professional Genealogist who brought his two hobbies (computer and genealogy) together (GenWeb). He was preceded in death by his mother and father; Frances and Kermit Basham. He is survived by his wife of 29 years: Nancy Basham, daughters; Susanne Koonce and her husband, Larry (Plano); sons John Basham and his wife Jennifer (Irving), and Mark BAsham (Dallas); brothers: Dwaine Basham and his wife, Myrlene (Dallas), Travis Basham and his wife, Peggy (San Antonio), sister: Lieta Wooldridge (Dallas) ; numerous nieces and nephews. Vigil Service-Rosary will be said 7:30 P.M. Thursday September 18, 1997, ST PARTICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH. Rev. Msgr. Richard Johnson and Father Michael Guadagnoli con-celebrants. Interment will be in Grandview, Texas.
If desired, memorials may be made in Mike's name to The Bishop Lynch Memorial Scholarship Fund, 9730 Ferguson Rd. Dallas, TX 75228 or Dallas Genealogy Society P.O. Box 12648 Dallas, TX 75225
