The Servant of God, Msgr. Antônio de Almeida Lustosa SDB., was the Archbishop of the See of Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil.

Born on February 11, 1886, in São João del Rei, Brazil, he was ordained presbyter at the age of 26 through the Congregation of the Salesians of Saint John Bosco on January 28, 1912 after undergoing studies at the Salesian College of Cachoreira do Campo, which he entered at the early age of 16.

At the early age of 38, Almeida Lustosa was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Uberaba on July 4, 1924, and received his episcopal consecration on February 11, 1925, from Archbishop Helvécio Gomes de Oliveira SDB., assisted by Archbishop Manoel Gomes de Oliveira SDB., and Bishop Benedito Paulo Alves de Souza.

On December 17, 1928, he was named Bishop of the Diocese of Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul and was transferred to the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará, Para, on July 10, 1931, of which he took possession on December 15.

Aged 55, he was once again transferred, this time to the important See of Fortaleza, Ceara, on July 19, 1941. During his twenty two years episcopacy in the named See, he founded the Pre-Seminary of the Curate of Ars, the Cardinal Frings Institute, St. Joseph's Hospital, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima, the Assunzione Cearense Radio Station, the Casa del Bambin Gesù, several Elementary Schools, several Operative Circles and numerous Health Care Institutions. Furthermore he was one of the co-founders of the Conferência Nacional dos Bispos do Brasil (CNBB).

A prolific writer, he wrote among others on theology, philosophy, spirituality, hagiography, literature, geology and Botany. His love for arts, made him adorn the Cathedral of Fortaleza with impressive stained glass windows.

The Archbishop retired from the pastoral government of his See aged 77, on February 16, 1963, and was appointed Archbishop of the Titular See of Velebusdus, a post which he later resigned on March 16, 1971.

Dom Almeida Lustosa passed his last fifteen years of his life at the Salesian House of Carpina where he passed away at the venerable age of 88, on August 15, 1974. His remains are found interred inside the Cathedral of Fortaleza in Ceara.
