Birth: Aug. 28, 1930
Death: Jul. 20, 2007

Our most beloved wife, mom, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend passed away on July 20, 2007, after a courageous fight with cancer. She was the second of five children born to William H. and Eleanor Doty Townsend, in Murray, Utah, on August 28, 1930.

She married Richard F. Carlson on September 3, 1955. Together they raised 3 children; Debbie, Scott and Brad. She had 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren that were the light of her life. Cheryl had many friends who lovingly referred to her over the years as Mom and Mrs. "C".

Cheryl graduated from Jordan High School and attended the University of Utah. She was an Executive Secretary of Bank of America in California and the Utah Highway Patrol. She worked for Toy Village for over 20 years. Later she worked for Travelers Insurance and United Health Care.

Bowling was a large part of Mom's life. She was a longtime member of the WIBC. She bowled on many leagues over the years with her husband, relatives and close friends. She participated in many local and national tournaments which allowed her the opportunity to visit several cities through out the United States. She enjoyed all sports and had a fondness of gymnastics and figure skating. She was an avid fan of the U of U Runnin' Ute's, Denver Broncos and Utah Jazz. We will enjoy and cherish the memories of times spent with her at Uncle Dow's cabin at Bear Lake and summer vacations camping in the mountains. Cheryl was a member of the LDS church and a very strong advocate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Cheryl is survived by her husband of 51 years, Richard F. "Dick" Carlson, daughter Debbie, son Scott, 6 grandchildren, Michael Ferderber, Melissa (Ken) Labrum, Jessyca (Josh) Burgin, Alisa (Bryant) Jackson, Karlynn Carlson, Braden Levi Carlson, 2 great grandchildren, Keaton Jackson and Chambrie Anne Burgin, sisters Charlene Carlson, LeighAnn (Bruce) Anderson, Hope (Wesley) Palmer, brother Gregg (Gloria) Townsend, many nieces, nephews and close friends. She was preceded in death by her son Brad, brother Dow, her parents and many family and close friends.

Words cannot express our gratitude to Dr. Richard Frame and all his quality associates for the wonderful care she received.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Susan G. Komen Breast Care Foundation or any charity of your choice.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2007 at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State where friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2007 and one hour prior to services on Friday. Interment at Murray City Cemetery.
