Graveside services for Barry Birt Britain, 64, of Gainesville, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Callisburg Cemetery with Ben Willingham, Callisburg Church of Christ minister, officiating, under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Britain peacefully passed from this life on August 16, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He fought a brief, but very courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born December 29, 1948 in Ranger, Texas, to William Birt Britain and Billie June Smith Britain. Mr. Britain graduated from Gainesville High School in 1968 and Grayson County College in 1992. On September 5, 1969, he married his high school sweetheart, Paula Ann Meyer, in Gainesville. He was a member of the Callisburg Church of Christ. He was a Journeyman Plumber and worked for Britain Plumbing from 1968 to 1978. He was a maintenance technician for Weber Aircraft from 1978 to 1988. He then worked in maintenance for Peterbilt Motors from 1988 to 1989. He was employed by Poly Pipe, working in inside sales and customer relations from 1989 until his death.

First and foremost, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed working on and driving his flamed 1972 pick-up truck, was an avid reader, and enjoyed vacation trips with his wife to Sand Springs, Oklahoma, to rest and relax in a cabin on Keystone Lake. His legacy to his family was researching and organizing a detailed genealogy on the Britain family, which took over four years. His children, brothers, niece, and nephew each received a copy of the completed history contained in a four-inch binder.

Survivors include his wife of almost 44 years, Paula Ann Britain of Gainesville; sons and daughters-in-law, Blaine and Heather Britain; and Clint and Tiffany Britain of Gainesville; grandchildren, Blake and Tyler Britain; and Alexia and Jacob Britain of Gainesville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy and Mary Jo Britain of Whitesboro; and Mark and Devone Britain of Gainesville; niece, Tambra Britain; nephew and niece-in-law, Shane and Katie Britain; great-nephews Kolsen Morrison and Creek Britain; and great-niece Gracie Lou Britain, all of Gainesville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents.

Everyone is encouraged to please arrive driving their classic cars/hot rods/motorcycles.
