Daughter of Frank Williamson Files and Maude Myers Files. Wife of Tazwell Walter Baird II (Married Morehouse Parish, December 26, 1926 and later divorced) and Joe Zimmer. Mother of Tazwell Walter Baird III. Noted author and columnist. Her books detailing her growing up in Oak Ridge, LA are well known in the area. They are: "A Village So Small", "A Time To Remember", "Door Without a Lock" and "Writer's Harvest". Her son Tazwell III was born October 26, 1927 in Monroe, LA and died in Chimaltenango, Guatemala May 4, 1973. He was buried in the General Cemetery there.

Memorial service will be held for Mrs. Maude Files Zimmer, 97, of Monroe will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, March 5, 2003, in the Chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Monroe with Rev. Larry Stafford officiating. Burial will be in the Baptist Cemetery in Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Zimmer died on March 3, 2003, at the Avalon Nursing Home.
She was a native of Oak Ridge, LA, and had lived for thirty-seven years in Bloomfield, Connecticut before returning to Louisiana in 1983.
Mrs. Zimmer was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monroe; a charter member of the Daughter of the American Revolution, the Abram Morehouse Chapter; member of the National League of American Women, North Louisiana Branch; and Fine Arts Club in Monroe.
Mrs. Zimmer's career as teacher, lecturer, and writer included Travel Editor, Lands of Romance Magazine; twelve years as columnist for The Hartford Times, Hartford, Connecticut; author of four published books; and articles for numerous publications. During World War II she served as Supervisor of Press and Publications, Office of Censorship, New Olreans Branch. Mrs. Zimmer received a number of national and international awards for her writings and was listed in the 1990/91 edition of World Who's Who of Women.
Her husband and her son, Tazewell W. Baird III, preceded her in death.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Monroe.
Visitation will be from 3 until 4 PM Wednesday, March 5th at Mulhearn Funeral Home Chapel.
