The first name of John's father is not known with certainty. Some have identified him as George but without any proof. His mother was Rebecca Throckmorton (1754-1839) who is recorded as having married Mr. Large abt 1772. John's brothers and sisters were:
William Large (b abt 1774), Johnathan Holmes (named after his mother's grandfather), Samuel (abt 1780), James (1783), Hetty (abt 1784), and Charity (1786).

John Large married his wife Sarah about 1804. All of their children are identified in John's will dated 20 April 1859 in West Amwell, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Seven days after the will was filed John departed this life and was buried in the Amwell Second Presbyterian Church Cemetery also called Mount Airy Cemetery. The church itself was founded in 1754.

To John and Sarah were born :
Sarah (b about 1805) who married Amos Peters.
Hetty (b 20 Feb 1806, d 11 May 1893) who is buried in the same Cemetery.
Joseph (b 16 April 1807, d after 1880) who married Nancy Fugate.
Johnathan (b about 1808, d before April 1859).
Maria (b abt 1810) who married Job Silvers.
Elizabeth (b 15 Oct 1811, d 23 Feb 1901) who is buried in the same Cemetery.
Rebecca (b about 1814, d March 1860) who married Nelson Abbott.
Charity (b about 1816) who married John Parish.
William (b about 1818) who married Phebe Boonham.

John and Sarah are captured in the 1850 US Census. John was a farmer with land worth $1,000. They were residing in Amwell township, Jew Jersey. Elizabeth who never married was living with them. Next door on both sides were their daughters Rebecca Nelson, and Sarah Peters.

John Large was once thought to be the son of Robert Large and Rhoda Wildman but his 1776 birth confirmed on his grave stone and the 1850 US Census rule this out since Robert died in 1774. The search continues for the name of his New Jersey father.
