Specialist Four Willie French Jr was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, SP4 French served our country until December 15th, 1967 in Kontum, South Vietnam. He was 22 years old and was married. It was reported that Willie died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. Willie was born on December 29th, 1944 in Pittsboro, North Carolina. SP4 French is on panel 31E, line 098 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.

On 15 December 1967, Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry, fought a battle at An My in Binh Dinh Province. It was a bitter fight that cost the lives of 21 American soldiers: SP4 Willie French of Pittsboro, NC, was one of those deaths.
He was the son of Mr and Mrs Willie French, Route #2, Box 12, Pittsboro, NC.
He served with Company B, 12th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division(AMBL), USARV.
He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Air Medal.
