Muriel Dean "MamMaw" Jones Duff
Birth: Apr. 15, 1930
Honey Island
Hardin County
Texas, USA
Death: Nov. 17, 2008
Livingston
Polk County
Texas, USA

Muriel was born in Honey Island, Hardin County, Texas on April 15, 1930, to Harvey "Hob" Jones and Annie Elizabeth Cain Jones. She grew up in the Segno Texas community located in southeast Polk County and attended school at Big Sandy High School, in Dallardsville, Texas where she graduated in 1947. Muriel was the second child of Hob and Annie Jones. She had an older brother Charles Ellery Jones, younger sisters Mary Beth Jones and Delores Jo Jones and younger brother Harvey Glenn Jones.

She was married to Sam Adams Duff on March 29, 1947.

She and Sam had three children, Elizabeth Joy, Charles Norman and Susan Ann. During their years of marriage, Muriel and Sam lived in Livingston Tx, Edinburg Tx, McAllen Tx, Sharyland Tx and Houston Tx before they retired back to Livingston where they lived in the Schwab City community.

Muriel was saved at a young age at the Magnolia Hill Baptist Church in the Segno community of Polk County, Texas, where her family had been charter members. She was a wonderful Christian wife and mother and took her children to church while they were growing up.

Muriel worked at various jobs during her marriage. While living in the Rio Grand Valley she worked at a meat market in Edinburg, then went to work at a bank in McAllen. When she and Sam moved to Houston she worked as an officer at Texas Commerce Bank, now J.P. Morgan Chase Bank where she retired in 1985. After retiring, she continued work for her sister, Delores and brother-in-law Rastus, in Livingston doing their bookkeeping and payroll. She was still working at the time of her death at age 78.

Muriel was always going and doing for others. The last four years of Sam's life, she dealth with his many illnesses while he was in and out of the hospital and was always by his side. She helped her cousins in the nursing homes by doing their laundry and running errands for them. She could run rings around everyone and seemed tireless until she sat down, then we got a chuckle at how she could take a quick nap and get going again.

She loved the many traveling vacations she took with her children and grandchildren and always was ready when one of us said let's take a vacation trip. She and Sam traveled from Texas to New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma on some trips. Then they traveled on other trips from Texas to Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana on other trips. She was always happy to go and happy to get back to East Texas. She loved and enjoyed all her grandchildren and great grandchildren and never missed being present at their births.

She was survived by twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren at the time of her death. Since that time she has become the great-grandmother to five additional babies: twin girls born in 2009, a grandson born in 2010 and twin grandson and granddaughter in 2011.
