Brother of Private Esli (died 8/22/1862) of (3rd) "H" Co. VA 47th Infantry & Private Ezer, of "E" Co. VA 47th Infantry.

(3rd) Company H of Caroline County, 47th Virginia Infantry, Field's Brigade, A.P. Hill's Division, 2nd Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Residence Caroline County VA; 25 year-old Merchant.
Enlisted on 3/24/1862 at Fredericksburg, VA, he was mustered into (3rd) "H" Co. VA 47th Infantry as a 5th Sergeant; $50 bounty.
Absent With Out Leave 7/4/1862-12/12/1862; reduced to ranks, Private, 7/4/1862.
Wounded 7/3/1863 by gunshot, with fractured upper 3rd of femur, POW 7/4/1863 Gettysburg, PA.; admitted, confined & treated 7/29/1863 at Camp Letterman General Hospital, Gettysburg, PA.; died there.

His widow, Sarah, filed a Settlement Claim 1/14/1865.

The 47th Infantry Regiment was formed in June, 1861, with men recruited in Caroline, Middlesex, Essex, and Stafford counties. During February, 1865, the 47th and 55th Regiments were consolidated.
