On 2/9/1923, a 91-year old farmer living in Doswell (Caroline County, Va,), he applied for admittance into the Robert E. Lee Camp Confederate Soldiers' Home due to "old age", and not having any close relatives nearby. He was ordered for admission on 3/8/1923. He discharged at his own request 5/24/1923; reentered the Home 10/3/1923. He died there.
