Residence was not listed; a 21 year-old Farmer; 5' 6.0", light complexion, light eyes, light hair.
Enlisted on 3/20/1862, he was mustered into "H" Co. VA 47th Infantry as a Private.
Hospitalized, sick 8/31/1862; discharged 11/8/1862 for debility and emaciation: weighed only 90 lbs.
On 6/1/1900, living in Golansville, Caroline County, he applied for a partial Confederate Disability Pension due to "ruptured due to hard labor in war" and "bodily infirmity" causing him to be "unable to lift or walk any distance". He was approved for $15 per annum.
On 10/31/1906, as a 64 year-old married farmer living in Chilesburg, Caroline County, he applied for admittance into the Robert E. Lee Camp Soldiers' Home, Richmond, VA., due to "Rupture and injury to my head done in Excelsior Factory". He was also found by the Caroline County Clerk to be living "at the Poor House as a pauper and is in a pitiable condition". He was approved 5/9/1907, ordered in 7/13/1907, and admitted 8/9/1907; died there.
The 47th Infantry Regiment was formed in June, 1861, with men recruited in Caroline, Middlesex, Essex, and Stafford counties. (bio by: BigFrench)
