U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the Albany Law School in 1860, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Lyons, New York. He was clerk of the surrogate court in 1863 and prosecuting attorney of Wayne County, (1867-70). In 1877, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-fifth, Forty-sixth and Forty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1883. Not a candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 52.
