Wilson Jones
Birth: Jan. 5, 1793
Lincoln County
Kentucky, USA
Death: Nov. 17, 1854
Mount Vernon
Posey County
Indiana, USA

Wilson was the second son of the Reverend Samuel Jones and Elizabeth (Middleton) Jones and was born January 5, 1793. (One source states January 6th). He moved with his family from Lincoln County, Kentucky where he was born to Black Township, Posey County, Territory of Indiana near the present town of Mount Vernon around 1807. His father was the first minister to preach in Posey County and founded the Farmersville Primitive Bethel Baptist Church. On March 14, 1815 (one source states March 11)shortly after Posey County was established, Wilson married Elizabeth Downen at Mount Vernon. He bought land in 1826 with his brother David Jones (my great grandfather) and Robert Duckworth serving as witnesses. Samuel and Elizabeth (his parents) sold land to Wilson on November 29, 1829. In 1846, when the will of his brother Michael was probated, he was mentioned as one of the two executors. Wilson and Elizabeth had fifteen children: Isiphena, Louisa J., William D., Samuel R., Mary Jane, Elizabeth, Margaret E., Angeline, Emaline, Evaline, Elva, Levitus B., Leroy William and Angelitha. A second daughter named Isiphena has been identified as their child. Wilson established a farm in Black Township and later moved to Marrs Township where he developed a new farm which was taken over and expanded by his son Samuel R. after Wilson died. Wilson passed away on November 17, 1854. It is assumed he was buried in the Samuel Jones Graveyard (Cemetery) which is located on the family farm. A number of Joneses and other various members of the Jones clan are buried in this cemetery which was most likely named in honor of his father, the Reverend Samuel Jones. His grave and the grave of his wife Elizabeth have never been located, however.

A bouquet of flowers dedicated in the memory of the elder brother of my great grandfather David Jones. Wilson and his wife Elizabeth farmed in southwestern Indiana in the early 1800s where they raised fifteen children.
