Seaborn F. RACKLEY,
son of Mary Murray and William "Joel" Rackley, was born on 18 Nov 1831. He enlisted as a private in Company B, 5th Regiment Georgia State Troops, on Oct 22,1861, and mustered out in Apr 1862. He reenlisted as a private in Company K, 32nd Regiment Georgia Infantry, on 10 May 1862, and surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina Apr 26,1865. He married Amanda Wetumpka LOVETT. Seaborn died on 28 Feb 1917.

DEATH OF MR. SEABORN RACKLEY

Mr. Seaborn F. Rackley, one of Burke county's oldest and most respected citizens, died at his home in Sardis Wednesday last.

Mr. Rackley was more than 80 years of age, and was in declining health for sometime before his death and while it was not unexpected, it is sincerely regrettted by a large nuber of relatives and friends in Burke, Screven and Jenkins counties, where he is best knnown and esteemed. He was a true friend, a kind neighbor, an affectionate husband and father, and measured up fully to the standard of a good citizen, and many expressions of regret are heard upon the death of "Uncle Seab", as he was familiarly known to his more intimate acquaintances.

Mr. Rackley is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters, Mrs. E.J. Bargeron and Miss Freddie Rackley, Messrs. H.G. Rackley and Crawford Rackley, of Sardis.

The interment was at Sardis cemetery and the services were conducted by the pastors of the Sardis churches.

This family was part of a group of early settlers from Duplin Co NC that moved to what is now Sardis, GA. Their proximity to the seat of the Lovett's allows for many marriages. there are many Murray connections with these families. The family is exhaustively documented in the book Rackley-A Southern Colonial Family by Eloise F Potter and Timothy W Rackley.
