My dad.

Veteran of World War II Naval forces. He was in the Philippines, part of the landing force preparing for the invasion of Japan, when the bomb was dropped. He was pretty sure that the bomb saved his life.

Before World War II he served as a missionary in the LDS Spanish American mission. That is when he became fluent in Spanish, a fact that defined the remainder of his life.

Spanish Teacher and Fix-it man. He was known by many as Mr. Green - the man who would weld a vice onto the bumper of a Mercedes because it was the practical thing to do. Even at the age of 86, he was still fixing toilets and air conditioners, climbing onto people's roofs and into their attics... and we couldn't stop him. The thing that stopped him was his heart.

Father of five precocious girls now grown to grandmotherhood. Grandfather of 30 grandchildren now watching their own children marry. At the time of his death Great Grandfather of 43 great grandchildren. Now there are more great grandchildren who knew him before they knew us, because they came from where he went to.
