Fudge was a black, shorthair Burmese-mix cat adopted from the Animal Defense League of San Antonio, TX in December of 1998. Because of his obvious oriental ancestry, they had given him the temporary name, "Chong;" however, we were making Christmas fudge when we brought him home so my daughter, Michaela, renamed him "Fudge."
He was the sweetest kitten and just loved to snuggle. In fact, when we first brought him home, he was so snuggly we had to banish him from our bedroom at night because he purred so loudly. He would get up right in our faces, rub up against us and keep us awake! Fudge grew up to be the smartest, most loveable and unique cat. He learned how to open every the door in the house, including the sliding-glass patio doors! He was so smart that we used to joke that Fudge was really a person in a cat suit.
We tried to keep him an indoor cat, but it was simply impossible to keep him inside. He would dash out the door when we let the dogs in or out. He could read us like a book and knew when our guard was down. Rather than run the risk of crushing him in the door, we gave in to his desires and he became an outdoor cat. In spite of this, Fudge never went far. Most frequently, he could be found sunning himself on the driveway or relaxing on the patio.
Fudge would sit on our laps for hours, sleep with us and bathe us with his unconditional love. Our hearts were shattered into a million pieces when he succumbed suddenly to an unknown illness on March 15, 2008.
He was a loved and cherished member of our family and we miss him more than words can express.
We love you, Fudge!
