He was born in Clay County, the son of Denby & Floy Stanley Herdes. He married Elaine Wolfe and they are parents of Greg and Kim. He later married Glenda Lewis Wolfe.
He was a member of the Clay City Methodist Church and Clay City Lion's Club.
Surviving are his widow, Glenda; a son Greg; daughter, Kim; and his twin brother Darold.
Funeral services were held at the Summers/Kistler Funeral Home. Burial in Smith Cemetery, Sailor Springs, IL.
