Funeral services for Mrs. Orpha Slifer, wife of Ellis Slifer, who died at their home, 306 W. Hendricks Street, Friday morning, 29 Aug 1919, at 10 o'clock, was held from the late home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and burial was in the Fairland cemetery. Rev. E. A. Dougherty officiated at the service. Her death was caused from a complication of diseases from which she had been ill for many months.
Mrs. Slifer was 70 years of age, having been born in Shelby County, 29 May 1846, the daughter of Stephen and Mary Ridlen. She moved to this city thirty-six years ago. Her marriage to Mr. Slifer occurred 19 Dec 1867, and to the union three children were born, all of whom survived with the husband. The sons were Stephen and George R. of this city, and the daughter, Mrs. William Hoop, of Indianapolis. She also had one brother, Cumberland Ridlen, and one sister, Mrs. Anne Wright, both of St. Paul, both of whom were seriously ill at their homes.
She was a Christian woman in all respects and a devout and valued member of the West Street M. E. Church, having united with that congregation when she came to this city. She was respected by her neighbors and possessed friends thruout the city and county to whom her death was a distinct loss.
Friends could call at the late home until 9 o'clock Saturday evening and from 9 o'clock Sunday morning until the hour of the funeral service.
Stewart & Fix, undertakers, were in charge of the funeral arrangements and burial.
