A PSNS retiree and an avid flower grower, Charles E. Kidder, 81, died yesterday at Harrison Memorial Hospital following a lengthly illness.
A resident of 1303 Trenton Ave. since 1924, Mr. Kidder and his wife Leila had celebrated their golden anniversary two years ago.
Mr. Kidder was born in Independence, Wis., Jan. 18, 1880. Following his marriage in 1909 in Breckinridge, Minn., he and his wife lived in North Dakota and later in Idaho where he taught school.
They later moved to Bremerton where Mr. Kidder was employed as a boat builder at PSNS. He retired in 1946 after more than 21 years service.
In recent years, Mr. Kidder raised flowers and traveled to Alaska and throughout the United States.
Surviving besides his wife at the family home are two sons, Glenn Roy and Charles Elmer, both of Alaska; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Marjorie Eleanor) Storms of Oak Harbor, Mrs. Roy (Betty Jean) Chittenden of Portland, Ore.; a brother, Jay of Olalla; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Lewis chapel will announce services.
The family suggests that memorials be made in the form of contributions to a favorite charity.
