LCPL Kyle Wayne Burns
Birth: Jul. 16, 1984
Albany County
Wyoming, USA
Death: Nov. 11, 2004
Al Fallujah
Anbar, Iraq

LCPL, U. S. Marine Corps, Persian Gulf. Marine Lance Cpl Burns was assigned to the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California. Burns was killed in an explosion by enemy action in Falluyah, Al Anbar province, Iraq. Kyle's father began taking him fishing while he was still in diapers. He loved the outdoors, sports and went camping, rock climbing, caving, played baseball, soccer and also ran track. At the age of seven, he learned to skate so he could play hockey with a friend he played for 12 years. He was a die-hard sports fan who would paint letters on his chest and sit in 40 below zero weather to watch a game. In high school he was an average student who had a little problem with authority, so when at the age of 17 he told his parents that he was going to enlist in the Marines after graduation, they were against it at first. Kyle was insistent about it and left for boot camp in June 2002, a month after receiving his high school diploma. The Marines turned out to be a wonderful thing for him. He grew up, got his sense of humor back, and loved being a Marine. Kyle wasn't super excited about going back to Iraq the second time but knew it was his job and was what he loved to do. He was already thinking of staying in the Marines. He told his mom, "It's what I want to do. It's what I've got to do." (bio by: Brenda N)
