He was married to the late Mrs. Mary E. (Miller) Carter who died September 18, 2005. The son of the late Lyle L. and Edith M. (Gorham) Carter. He was a graduate of Lowell Trade School with the class of 1949.
He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a part of the honor guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
He retired in 1994 from Patten's Mechanical of Hopkinton, MA. In the 1950's, he was a volunteer fireman for the Town of Dunstable, MA.
He was a member of Dunstable Congregational Church of Dunstable, MA. He was a member of Tyngsboro-Dunstable Lion's Club, and the American Legion Post 247 of Tyngsboro, MA. He enjoyed farming, and fishing.
He is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, Lyle and his wife, Liang Yan Hua Carter, Jr. of Dracut, Leonard and his wife Wanda Carter of Greenland, NH, Lawrence Carter and his wife Beth Buxton Carter of Pepperell, two sisters-in-law, Carol Carter of Tyngsboro, MA and Patricia Spillane of Lowell, five grandchildren, Katherine Carter of Ayer, Katie Carter of Lowell, Travis Carter of Pepperell, Tyler Carter also of Pepperell and Kayla Carter of Dracut, MA, as well as several nieces, nephews, and close family friends. He was the brother of the late Herb Carter of Tyngsboro.
