Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Captain in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a First Lieutenant in Company C, 102d US Colored Infantry for action in April 1865 near Camden, South Carolina. His citation reads "Hazardous service in marching through the enemy's country to bring relief to his command."
