Watson Stanley Fisher
Birth: Apr. 12, 1892, USA
Death: Jul. 12, 1916, USA

Stanley was attacked by a shark in Matawan Creek (Matawan, NJ) while attempting to recover the body of 12 year old Lester Stillwell who had also been attacked by the shark. Stanley lived for a few hours after the attack and then died due to blood loss. He and Lester were buried on July 15, 1916 in the Rose Hill Cemetery of Matawan.

Stanley was young (24 yrs.old), popular and handsome with his whole life ahead of him. He very generously gave his life in attempting to rescue Lester or at least bring some peace to the Stillwell family by finding Lester's body. Because of his bravery and sacrifice, Stanley is remembered as a hero.

I learned of your bravery and sacrifice and I cried. Rest in peace, young man with a hero's heart.
