Indian Wars Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the United States Army during the Wars with the Plains Indians as a First Lieutenant in the 6th United States Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at White River, South Dakota on January 1, 1891. His citation reads “Headed the advance across White River partly frozen, in a spirited movement to the effective assistance of Troop K, 6th U.S. Cavalry”. His Medal was issued to him on April 25, 1891. He continued in the Army after the end of the Indian Wars, serving in the Spanish-American War, and retiring with the rank of Colonel.
