This portrait is from the CONFEDERATE VETERAN, Vol. 5, No. 10 (Oct. 1897), p. 532. In the same page is an article on him, "Corporal B.F. Ballard" by James S. Aden. Ballard was born in Henry Co., Tenn., but moved to Grenada, Miss., in 1851, then to Greenwood, Miss., and finally to Paris, Tenn., in 1854. In the War Between the States, he enlisted on Nov. 13, 1861, in the Independent Rebel Rangers, which became Company G, Seventh Tennessee Cavalry, C.S.A. He was elected Corporal in that company, and served in Mississippi, including the battle of Corinth (Oct. 3-4, 1862).
His first wife was HENRIETTA DICKERSON, and after her death, he married MARTHA MCDANIEL. He was the father of 19 children by 1897, but only 9 of them were still living by then.
