Injuries Fatal to Ex-Commissioner
Jesse L. Hartley, 91, of 256 North Porter street, former county commissioner and lifelong resident of Greene County, died at 4 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 1958 in Greene County Hospital as a result of multiple injuries received when struck by an automobile Tuesday evening at the intersection of Greene and Porter streets as he was on his way home after attending Holy Week services at the Church of the Nazarene, two block east in Greene street.

Born March 15, 1867 in Perry Township, near Mt. Morris, he was a son of the late Elijah and Sarah Lemley Hartley and followed farming until he moved to Waynesburg 48 years ago. He was elected to the Board of County Commissioners, serving one term, 1920-24, and was widely known over the county. He was a member of the First Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, S. E. Hartley and Otis Hartley, both of Waynesburg; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two brothers, Rev. W. T. Hartley of Trafford and John L. Hartley of Mt. Morris R. D., and one sister, Mrs. Kughn Barrickman of Morgantown, W. Va.

HARTLEY - Friends of Jesse L. Hartley of 256 North Porter street, Waynesburg, who died Wednesday morning, April 2, 1958 from injuries received in a traffic mishap, are being received at the Church-Mariner Funeral Home, 197 North Maiden street, where funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, with Rev. Ronald Moseley officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mt. Morris.
