BORN June 15, 1939 DIED April 17, 2020 LOCATION Jupiter, Florida

Rosemary Sell passed away on Friday, April 17th, 2020 at Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter, FL. The cause of death was complications from the Coronavirus.

Rosemary was born in New York City to John J. Lynch and Florence Lynch (Lintz) in 1939 and was the eldest of 3 siblings. She grew up in the Washington Heights neighborhood with her brothers Michael C. Lynch and John F. Lynch. A gifted student with a passion for learning Rosemary attended nursing school at St. Vincent's in Greenwich Village and embarked on a career lasting six decades.

A nursing job at the 1964 World's Fair in NYC sparked her lifelong interest in travel.

Not long thereafter she moved to West Berlin and worked as a nurse and as a Montessori teacher. In Berlin, she met her future husband Peter at the Schloss Charlottenburg while admiring a painting. In 1967, after marrying in Munich, she returned to New York City and started raising her family in Stuyvesant Town. Rosemary was a loving mother and was known for her boundless energy and active involvement in the community. When the Stuyvesant Town Little League was looking for volunteers, she and a friend became the first female baseball coaches in the league.

Rosemary was a natural story teller and made quick friends of strangers. She was an avid reader, theater goer and overall lover of the arts, as well as a spirited bargain hunter and eccentric giver of gifts.

Whilst raising her 5 sons, she also managed to continue her career in nursing, earning both a Masters in Nursing and a Masters in Public Health from Columbia University. She later added a Pediatric Nurse Practitioners degree to her educational accomplishments. She taught future nurses at both Hartwick College and the Borough of Manhattan Community College for several years.

Since 2001 she was resident in Jupiter FL, but often returned to her hometown to visit friends and family; she kept her nursing license active and would occasionally work as a school nurse. In early March 2020, she responded to the call for nursing help in the NYC public schools during the Coronavirus pandemic and contracted the virus there.

She is survived by her 5 sons: Moritz, Rainer, Peter, Patrick and Maximilian; her brother Michael, her 10 grandchildren and many beloved cousins, nephews and nieces and friends all over the world.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held when circumstances allow it.
