John Lee Cook, 79, of 572 Gentle Pasture Road, Chatham, died Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born July 19, 1930 in Caswell County, NC, he was the son of the late Alfred Lee Cook and Annie Sue Hobbs Cook. On March 28, 1949, he married Myome Thompson Cook who predeceased him in 2006. On November 16, 2007, he married Barbara Rowles Cook, who survives him of the home. He attended Sheva Church of Christ and had worked as an Estimator for Baldwin Line Construction. He served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army from 1949 to 1952, during the Korean War.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Cook is survived by a son, A. Steven Cook, of Chatham; three daughters, Sylvia Lynn Taylor, of Chatham, Susan McMichael of Hurt and Stephanie Cook, of Chatham. Also surviving are two step-sons, Marty Rowles and Barry Rowles; one brother, Roy Cook, of Honalulu, Hawaii, and one sister, Brenda Harrison of Tappahananock, VA; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren.

In addition to his first wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, John L. Cook, Jr.; a daughter, Sheryl Lynnett Cook; two brothers, Curtis Cook and Bobby R. Cook, and two sisters, Peggy Cook and Annie Sue Scearce.

Graveside services for Mr. Cook will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2009 with the Rev. Terry Schultz officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park. Military honors will be given by the American Legion Dan River Post 1097.
