Rozella was born on Saturday, September 10th, 1910 in Monticello, Kentucky to the late Charlie Sloan and Zora Barnes Hammonds. She attended school in the Wayne County School System at the Old Fall Creek School. In 1929 she was married to Elbert Parris, who preceded her in death on May 1st, 1980.
Rozella was the oldest member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church and was a faithful member and supporter of the church ministry until her failing health prevented her active participation. On September 23rd, 2010 a celebration of her 100th birthday was given by the staff at Britthaven of Somerset. She was also the oldest surviving descendent of the late Ruben and Laura Hayes Barnes.
Rozella was a kind and gentle woman with a passion and love for children. She loved to garden, fish, cook, and sew and could always be counted on to do whatever she could for the church and her community.
While she was an only child and never had children of her own, she always considered her cousins and neighbors as her children. She took Billy Jay Barnes to be her "Godson" when he was 3 years old and considered him as her own child.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her "Godson", Bill Jay Barnes, along with his siblings and other cousins and friends.
