Born in Lambton County, Ontario Canada, Charles was one of seven children born to Samuel Hollingshead and Anna Coffey

Charles was a member of the 20th Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Regiment U.S. Marines, American Expeditionary Forces and died in France from wounds received in action during World War 1. He was buried in France but was reinterred in Forest Hill in the family lot on 26 June 1921.

He was the brother of Samuel, Rachel, Frank, Alfred, Abbie and Morley Hollingshead

Uncle of Agnes Hollingshead and
Irma B Hollingshead, U.S. Navy.

Many thanks to Charles' cousin, Jerry, for the biographical information.

Charles' original headstone had been broken off the base and was leaning against a tree in the old historic area of the cemetery. After researching and finding a family member I worked as liasion between the family, cemetery staff and the Veterans Administration and it was an honor for this biographer to procure a new military headstone for Sgt Hollingshead in 2008. djg

***************************
The bio says he was buried at Forest Hill Cemetery on 26 June 1921, but a manifest of the ship that carried his remains back to the US, the USAF Wheaton, says it arrived at Hoboken, NJ, on 2 July 1921. I have a copy of this manifest if anyone needs it. So, perhaps he was buried on 26 JULY?
