Bernice M. Cocking, 87, of Tomah and formerly of Cataract, died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. She was born on September 16, 1921 in Flint, MI where she grew up. She married Albert J. Cocking in 1940 and they lived in Racine, WI.

Bernice worked at St. Mary's Hospital and also worked at a luggage manufacturer in Racine. In 1970, they moved to Iron River, MI and lived and worked as custodians for an apartment complex. Albert passed away in 1996.

Bernice enjoyed puzzles, pool, board games, and spending time with her family. She loved dancing in her younger years.

She is survived by her daughter, June Abbott of Tomah, WI; her son, John (Barbara) Woods of Racine; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert; a grandson, William Abbott; and a sister, Patricia.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, with Reverend Randy Larson officiating. Burial will be at a later time in Cataract Cemetery, Cataract.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of services.
